Hoefer Shop Germany: BAYZID Filter Set and 5 kg Quartz Sand Compared
Hoefer Shop lists both a BAYZID filtersand set for small pools and a standalone 5 kg bag of premium quartz filter sand. They are not automatically interchangeable. Filter-vessel size, the manufacturer's required media mass and permitted grain size determine which belongs in a particular sand-filter system.
The 5 kg Premium Quarzsand has a stated grain range
The standalone product is a 5 kg bag of cleaned and dried quartz sand with a grain size of 0.4 to 0.8 mm. Hoefer cites DIN EN 12904 in its description. That concrete grain range is the first compatibility check: a filter designed for coarser media may pass fine grains, while a system requiring finer media may not perform correctly with a coarser substitute.
Five kilograms is a package quantity, not a universal fill amount. Small filter tanks can require less, while larger vessels may need several bags. Overfilling can obstruct backwashing; underfilling reduces the depth available to trap particles. Consult the filter maker's plate or manual before ordering.
Quartz sand also does not chemically sanitise pool water. It captures suspended material as water circulates through the bed. Circulation time, backwashing and water chemistry remain separate jobs. The product description's filtration purpose should not be read as a guarantee of hygienic water without those controls.
The BAYZID set combines two grain grades
Hoefer describes the BAYZID filtersand set as a combination of fine and medium grain material intended for smaller pools. The point of a graded set is layering or using media in the arrangement specified for the compatible filter. Buyers should not mix the grades arbitrarily or assume the total package suits every “small” pool.
The useful question is the filter model, not merely pool diameter. Two pools holding similar volumes can use different pumps and vessels. Confirm total fill mass, each permitted grain range and the installation order. If the manual specifies a single 0.4–0.8 mm medium, the standalone 5 kg product is the more directly documented match; if it specifies layered grades, the set may be appropriate.
Installation and maintenance differences
Before filling either medium, inspect laterals or filter fingers for damage and cover the standpipe as directed so sand does not enter it. Add water first if the manual requires it, pour media carefully and remove stray grains from sealing surfaces. A poor valve seal after refilling can matter more than the brand of sand.
New sand can release fines during the first rinse. Use the filter's rinse/backwash sequence before returning water to the pool. Later backwash frequency should follow pressure rise and the filter instructions rather than a rigid calendar.
Neither product page establishes compatibility with every Bestway, Intex or other system. The BAYZID label “for small pools” is a use description, not a model list. The 5 kg quartz sand is the transparent choice where 0.4–0.8 mm and that mass are specified; the graded set is for systems whose instructions call for its two media grades.
Current price and stock are omitted. Media compatibility and required mass should be verified before purchase, because opened filter material may be inconvenient to return.
