Bern Helmets: FL-1 DVRT and Fremont DVRT Compared

Bern's FL-1 DVRT and Fremont DVRT are both lightweight cycle helmets, but their ventilation and certification details point to different riding. The FL-1 has 18 vents and a stated 310 g weight. Fremont DVRT has 10 vents, weighs 320 g and is listed with NTA 8776 certification for higher-speed e-bike use.

FL-1 prioritises airflow

The FL-1 DVRT's 18 large vents and removable hard visor suit neighbourhood, road and trail rides where airflow is a priority. Its 310 g figure is only meaningful for the specified size; verify the exact size chart and actual variant weight. The removable visor changes sun and debris coverage but does not change the need for correct fit.

Fremont targets urban e-bike use

Fremont's NTA 8776 listing is the decisive distinction for riders whose regulations, employer or risk assessment call for that standard. Its ten vents offer less open area than the FL-1 on paper, while the flip visor adds weather flexibility. Certification applies only to the exact certified product and condition, not to every Bern helmet.

The Diamond Helmet Light is an optional water-resistant rear light with three modes, up to 11 hours of stated runtime and 6.6-lumen output. Bern explicitly excludes compatibility with Major, Watts 2.0, Hudson and Tigre. A light increases visibility; it is not a substitute for legally required bicycle lighting or reflective positioning.

Fit overrides feature count

Measure head circumference and try the retention system through its range. The shell should sit level and resist rotation with straps correctly adjusted. Replace a helmet after a significant impact even if damage is not obvious, and do not attach incompatible accessories that could affect performance.

Choose FL-1 DVRT for maximum documented vent count and a removable trail-style visor. Choose Fremont DVRT when NTA 8776 certification and urban coverage matter. Add Diamond Helmet Light only after checking exact helmet compatibility. Prices are omitted because fit and certification are the stable decision factors.
